home stretch

TILEEEEEE

It feels like I don't have much to report, but you know- stuff's getting done. The kitchen is in the home stretch (tiling is done! walls are done!), I've still been eating a lot of take out (taco truck mmmmmm), and slugs are eating the bejesus out of my radishes. Jerks. Tomatoes are in the ground, bush beans are sprouting, peas are over a foot high.

Hey by the way, something just popped into my head. If you are planning to leave a comment that looks like this:

"Great post!!!!

Don't. You're a dumbass.

I don't like dumbass comments. Is that a dumbass comment? On my blog, the comment form says the following:

"Wow, does anyone read this little bit before typing in a comment? How many times do I have to go over this? DO NOT POST "COMMENTS" PROMOTING YOUR BLOG OR YOUR GIVEAWAY. I don't want them. I will delete them. It might seem a little harsh, but my blog isn't your own personal billboard. And I don't blog for comments so I don't mind deleting ones that have nothing to do with the post. On another note, please comment if you aren't promoting yourself. I like my readers and you know who you are. If you are new to this space and are a little flustered from reading the last few sentences, don't take me as a grouch. I really am quite delightful."

And it works. I get very few dumbass comments.

Haha. I'm only kidding. This is my first comment on here, though I've read for some time now. I was one of those readers that came to your blog because of that creepy broccoli incident a few years ago. At the time, I was in the midst of a mind-numbing internship, so your backlogs kept me entertained. Thanks for that.

Also, my bf and I just bought a house last fall. I'm in the middle of *trying* to start a garden (it's a townhome, so trying is the operative word) and remodel our kitchen/downstairs bathroom. I feel ya.

Ah, had the slug problem myself last summer and I learned an easy and safe way to get rid of them. Fill a pie pan with beer (cheap stuff works just fine) and set it out in the garden. Two, if you want. Then just wait. You'll find a good half dozen slugs drowned and dead each morning. They crawl in due to the beer's sweet smell and then they get drunk and, well, drown.

Good luck with everything!

Putting salt through your soil will get rid of the slugs(they are wee shits aren't they!).

The progress is looking good, I bet you can't wait to cook properly again! Still, it seems to be giving you time for drawing, so thats good.

I feel your pain with the slug battle, they have decimated my radishes too, I may plant more just to give them something to eat and keep them off my other crops.

I love the color!!! My kitchen is a maroon/wine color. I liked it when we did it but now I think its time for a change :)

A shame about the slugs, because nothing goes with taco truck fare quite like spicy radish slices.

Well, aren't you a sweetheart?

i don't know much about slugs, but i would second the beer comment. i read just today that PBR does the trick! (seriously: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/19/dining/19farm.html?ref=dining).

also, i've never posted before either (heyyy, creepy blog-reader lurking in the bushes!) but anyway, your blog is awesome.

I swear I've used that color before, in an apartment that I didn't exactly have permission to paint. I painted it anyway in this beautiful shade of green called "moss" or something like that, and then I hung up this great tree branch that had been felled in a storm and hung feathers and little ornaments and other cool trinkets from it. Man, I miss that room, and that color. Thanks for taking me back.

That radish is a thing of beauty! Now I'm trying to practice a massive amount of restraint not to rip all of mine out of the ground...but I think they need a bit more time. Damn.

I'm a chronic lurker, but was about to post a "haha jerks!" comment about your slugs. now what do I say, I'm a bit of a dumb ass, but enjoying your blog all the same.

By the way, I know you are lacking a kitchen, but I recently sauteed radishes for the first time (cuz my csa keeps dishing them out faster than we can eat them) and it was amazing.

Your kitchen looks highly edible. (As does that radish and its friend. Mmm.)Fantastic colour choice.

Where is that taco cart? I'm currently trapped living in SW, but I'll be moving soon, hopefully to near that cart!
