Regular readers might be aware that Summer and I get together Wednesday nights for a shared vice. We sip tea, nibble snacks (usually leftovers from whatever we baked recently) and heckle Tyra Banks. But last night happened to ALSO be the season premiere of Top Chef- a cooking competition show that I've never seen before. Duh! Of course I stayed to watch- I don't have Bravo at home.
To celebrate both the premiere and our sheer dorkiness, Summer quickly dug up this recipe using the Top Chef website. I guess it's a Campell's recipe but we decided it was in the spirit of things, and she happened to have enough ingredients around to throw it together.
Just lay out a sheet of puff pastry, brush with egg wash, and layer on well-drained (like, wrung-out. as dry as you can get it.) cooked spinach (we used frozen), and a mixture of grated cheese (romano? parmesan? gruyere? whatever you want), chopped onions, and a sprinkle of garlic powder. Roll up like a jelly roll, cut into slices, and brush the puff pastry with egg wash again. Bake on a sheet of parchment paper until puffy and golden, about 15 minutes at 400ºf.
Best enjoyed while talking mad smack at cheesy reality tv.

is "egg wash" just beaten eggs, or is there more to it?
If there's one thing I love more than cake it's a savoury snack- nice one!
I have the same secret vice. But my husband just makes fun of me. Sigh...
I make those little pinwheels for cocktail parties.
Where are the photos of the drinks?
you had me at puff pastry, but then again you had me at cheese.....ANTP RULES! One of my guilty pleasures as well.
Yum! Paula Deen also makes these spinach "wheels", but she adds Gruyere cheese.
You guys are so awesome! I'm so jealous of your Wednesday get-togethers!
cheese, spinach, and top chef three of my favorite things.
I'd watch Top Model except I like my TV a lot and I'd risk the chance of smashing it into a million pieces everytime I have to hear Giant Forehead try and convince the wannabes that they really WILL find themselves hanging 10,000 feet up in the air by their toes over a pool of razor sharp knives so she's doing them a favor showing them how to pose in that situation NOW rather than wait til it happens to them in the "real world" of modeling.
If I had those spinach snacks though, it might be worth it:)
i think tyra gets more insane every season. these look great, but they are pastry and cheese afterall.
OH my goodness. this sounds delish, and so easy!
I've got to start keeping puff pastry around my kitchen.
Just made these for a potluck at work today and they were a big hit. I will say, though, that I have no idea how they got 20 out of this recipe if they cut half inch wide slices, I got more like 14. I should have doubled the recipe!
